Salomon Men’s XW Tornado Skis

One of the X-Wing Collection line released by the Salomon Company, the Salomon Men’s XW Tornado Skis not only has the advantages of its predecessors, but has also unique features of its own that makes it distinct among the other boards in the collection.

Like its “brothers”, the Salomon Men’s XW Tornado is designed as a wide-waisted ski, meaning its controllability is top-notch, making it easier to conquer all-terrain mountains and different snow conditions with ease. It offers high performance and stability on both on-piste and off-piste, making it easier to conquer all terrains with this board.

The Salomon Men’s XW Tornado’s sidecut measurements are 120mm / 76mm / 106mm, that when compared to other boards in the X-Wing line, is much smaller. But smaller doesn’t mean lesser benefits, as it somehow gains other advantages that other boards don’t have. For example, with its small waist (even though this is supposed to be a wide-waist ski), it can easily make turns on narrow paths, with its small turn radius of 15.6m at 166cm length. The other XW boards can’t do this as they have much larger turn radius.

The board comes in varying sizes, with 156cm being the smallest, and the largest at 170cm. The larger the size is, the bigger the turn radius is.

Like all Salomon boards, this is made from full wood-core, giving it extra stability, but not sacrificing its speed and agility. Transmission of power (from the boots to the edges) is also made easy with this wood-core build, resulting to more edging ability and a more comfortable ride. As a part of the X-Wing family, it has an over-shaped sidecut, which improves the board’s carving ability over soft and cruddy snow conditions and improves responsiveness on groomed snow conditions. This board is also equipped with Pulse Pads, which gives it the ability to handle and minimize vibrations on hard falls, and sharp turns during high speeds. Coupled with full-width total reinforcement, it gives the board the much-needed rigidity to withstand hard snow conditions and extra responsiveness. P-Tex 4000 graphite base technology ensures smoothness of its performance by giving it high abrasion resistance, making its flotation and gliding ability almost perfect.

Bindings are ordinarily included in this board upon purchase, but if the seller does not include one, Salomon recommends using the Z12 Protrak Bindings (also from Salomon). The Z12 Protrak Bindings automatically adjusts the height and width at critical boot points, giving the skier maximum comfort, as well as extra stability, and better control of the board. It also offers protection to the feet to minimize feet injuries usually experienced when landing on hard snow or rocks.

With its high performance, and the ability to carve on both on-piste and off-piste terrains, it can conquer all areas of the mountain. Expert skiers will enjoy these as well as advanced-level skiers, but they might need to hold off on off-piste areas for a while until they are more experienced.
