My sons PS2 games arent playing on his PS3, I think i need to update the version to 1.7, easy way to do this?

His current software is version 1.5, i have tried to update the PS3 using his PSP but have found it difficult, what is the easiest way to upgrade your system?

  1. System Update – If your PS3 is online, the most straightforward way to update the system software is using the PLAYSTATION 3 itself. Navigate to Settings on the PS3 Home Menu, select [System Update] and then [Update via Internet] and your PS3 will check if you have the latest version. If not, it will download and install it for you.

PC Update – Visit eu.playstation.com for the very latest version of the update data. Follow the on-screen instructions to download to your PC.

To transfer the update data to your PLAYSTATION 3, save the file to a PS3 compatible storage device such as Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, USB drive or PSP.

Before starting, use your PC to create a folder named ‘PS3’ on the storage media or USB device. Within the folder, create a folder named ‘UPDATE’ (This folder name is case sensitive and must appear in all capital letters). Once the UPDATE folder has been created, download the PS3 system software update to this location.

Once the update data has been saved, disconnect the storage device and connect it to your PS3 via the slots under the slot cover or the USB connectors depending on the device you’re using.

Once connected, navigate to Settings on the PS3 Home Menu, select [System Update] and then [Update via Storage Media]. Select the connected device and your PS3 will install the update data stored there

  2. link up the ps3 to the internet by way of either the wifi, or by directly plugging it into the router with an ethernet cable. once that is done, all you have to do is navigate to the update in the ps3 main menu (sorry i can’t remember exactly where it is. it’s in settings and is called network update or something like that) the only other way to update to a new firmware is to buy a new game. sony builds in firmware updates into its games so that you can update your ps3 if you don’t have internet.

  3. along with the firmware update you need to go to sony’s online store and download an update which fixes an issue that prevents PS 2 games from playing properly. When you go online select sony store and get to the list of demos and games to download. If you look in that list you will find the download for PS 2 games and its a free download so you won’t have to purchase anything. So far since downloading it I have had no compatibility issues with PS 2 games though I haven’t tried many older games made back in like 2000,evey current game from like 2005 and up has worked perfect for me.
