Should I get an older refurbished Playstation3?

I have a huge collection of PS2 games, but in all honesty, the only games I feel like I’ll miss from it is Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 and Sly Cooper, but there’s now a Sly collection for the PS3. So would I be better off getting the 80 gb model that plays ps2 games or should I just get a new one?

  1. Buy a new PS3 and then buy a new or used PS2. Just because those old PS3s played PS2 games doesn’t mean they were any good at playing PS2 games. Adding PS2 hardware is one reason why the PS3 was so expensive, which led to Sony using partial emulation on that 80 GB, and PS2 software generally doesn’t run perfectly with software emulation. It doesn’t do the PS3’s longevity any good, either (PS2 software requires more juice to run and more juice = more generated heat). If you want to play PS2 software with a guarantee of being bug free or error free, the PS2 console is the best choice for your money, and its likely to stay that way for the foreseeable future.
