Will a Refurbished 80GB PS3 from GameStop play PS2 games and can I upgrade its hard drive and still have PS2 backwards compatibility?

I heard this PS3 (GameStop link to see) [url is not allowed] can work with PS2 games. If so, can I also upgrade its hard drive and STILL HAVE PS2 backwards compatibility?
Update:
Then If I get the 20GB PS3 with the Emotion Engine chip, can I upgrade that HDD to 500GB?

  1. If it has 4 USB ports then it’ll play some PS2 games! The only PS3 models that played PS2 disc games were the 2006 20GB and 60GB launch models which had the actual PS2 chip set installed on the motherboard and then there was a 2007 80GB bundled model number CECHE01 that used software emulation to mimic the PS2 chip set and as a result, it isn’t totally compatibility with all PS2 disc games!

I’ll include a link for more help! The link is to sony’s website showing which PS1/PS2 games are compatible with BC PS3 models.

And yes you can upgrade the HDD! The HDD has nothing to do with backwards compatibility! It’s only for storing saved data.
