Rossignol Men’s S5 Jago Skis

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

One of the boards on Rossignol’s new series of Seven Artistic Sins, the Rossignol Men’s S5 Jago Skis, represents the sin of Sloth. Contrast to its supposed representation, you wouldn’t want to laze out on this board, as it conquers mountain terrains and parks with little to no problem, as it inherited the previous S5’s main attribute: versatility.

The Rossignol Men’s S5 Jago Skis measures at 124mm / 94mm / 117mm at its smallest length, 171cm. The board is available on different sizes, including 171cm, 178cm, and the largest size, 185cm. Each size has its own different measurements and turn radius, with the smallest board (171cm) having the turn radius of 19.2m.

Like the other boards in the Seven Artistic Sins collection, this board is truly a masterpiece, both on the fields of art and skiing. The board’s art is made by “Mr. Jago” (hence, the name of the board), who is heavily influenced by street art and graffiti. He took the elements of graffiti art and incorporated them into the board, giving the board a masterful, artistic look.

Of course, an artistic look is not enough to make a good board, as it needs to have good technologies and constructions so that it can perform very well. Rossignol, not only didn’t neglect this fact, but further focused on making a board so good that it can handle any condition, any terrain, in any weather. And they did not fail to do so.

The S5 Jago Ski kept the technology behind the S5 Barras Ski that makes it the most versatile board before, the “New School” design, which sports three different binding mounts to adapt on different snow conditions and to adapt to the skier’s preferred style. If you need to do some modifications, you can just adjust the bindings to adapt to your style, without the need of heavy tools, and you’re all set to go!

For the specifications of the board, the S5 Jago is made from THC2 Wood Core, combining processed poplar and ash, to create a lightweight, yet stable board, and adds a lively feel to your ride, thus making you ride more enjoyable. Its Weight Reduction System aligns the core’s fiber materials to the sidecut shape, placing more on the underfoot, but less on both tip and tail to reduce the total weight, improve the board’s balance, as well as the rotation and spring weight. The Mini Rossitop cap construction strengthens the top of the ski – very useful when faced with hard landings during high jumps. This is coupled with several Visco elastomer inserts on the board, making it more durable to withstand the harsh environment of the mountain. Its sidewalls are angled at 30 degrees, further reducing its total weight and enhance its edging ability and power transmission.

Not all bindings are compatible with this one, as this requires bindings to have a brake width of 90mm. Rossignol recommends the use of their product, Rossignol Freeski2 140 XL, which provides extra comfort for skier’s feet, while complementing the versatility of the S5.
