Volkl Gotama, the ski that (almost) single-handedly established the twin-tip backcountry revolution, is now returning with the new and improved Volkl Men’s Gotama Flat Freeskiing Skis. With new technologies and innovations, and new improvements added on this year’s board, the Gotama Flat Freeskiing Ski will dominate the freeskiing scene once again!
This season’s Gotama Flat Freeskiing Ski has new sidecut dimensions. It is now measured at 137mm / 106mm / 122mm (tip / waist / tail), with the tip and the waist enlarged in width but they made the tail a little narrower than the previous season’s design. It has a wide radius turn of 28.8m at the largest ski size, 186cm. With its new design and sidecut measurements, it allows you to easily transition from turn to turn with little to no effort at all! That means you can still ski switch in backcountry powder conditions, and now, you can easily initiate turns on hardpack and groomed snow conditions too!
The core is made from Sensorwood, which consists of vertically-laminated poplar and beech wood, and is now improved with the new Tough Box enhancement that wraps layers of fiberglass strands around the Power Construction and core. This adds the much-needed durability and rigidity, making it tougher than before. Carbon stringers strengthen the board further but these new materials do not affect or increase the board’s weight. Adding these materials helps to toughen the board up for those hard impacts that might damage the board.
A unique addition to this year’s Gotama Flat Freeskiing Skis is the Volkl’s Elongated Low-Profile (ELP) rocker design. This new technology improves the board’s maneuverability dramatically, by making it easier to turn than ever. This also improves your handling of the board, as well as its edging potential on different snow conditions. Definitely a large improvement compared to its older designs.
This board is recommended for expert skiers who tend to balance their time skiing on all-mountain terrains and deep powder snow conditions. It can also adapt on other snow conditions, with little to no difference in its performance. If you’re looking for a backcountry powder twin-tip ski but can’t afford to buy other skis suitable for other snow conditions, then this board is the right one for you!
